Why you should have a personal website

In a world so hyperconnected, especially after the Covid-19 crisis, and considering that you want to enhance your personal brand, having your own «personal website» seems to me, not advisable, but really essential.

The first piece of data I´d like you to know: Only 7% of people have a personal website.

By creating one, you are already setting yourself apart from 93% of the population.

Imagine the thought of having your personal website pop-up on the first position of Google everytime someone types your name on the search bar. From there, who knows what opportunity it might create.

There are many advantages to having a personal website, here are some of them:

Having your own space in the online world, controlled by you.

It is possibly the only online space where you are in charge. You decide what image it will have, what content will appear and what will not, if it is visible or private, if you update it or not. Position yourself in search engines and be found.

Having your own website makes it easier for the audience or people looking for information to find you, your company, your products and services.

Facilitating this encounter with your target audience and also directing them to the place you control is great.

It is a fantastic channel for communicating

Your web visitors, employers, clients etc will have another way to communicate with you, and you will have another way to reach them for whatever purpose.

Generate loyalty, make connections, produce good content, and help people.

Moreover, it is a channel that is compatible and perfectly connectable with the other digital communication channels you already use. E.g. LinkedIn, Instagram etc.

Share.

Share with others what you want them to know about you, who you are, what you do, how you can help them, your training, professional experience, achievements, testimonials from other customers, the products you sell or the services you provide, ways to contact you, your advice and experiences.

In short, useful and quality content that generates credibility and trust, and improves your reputation and personal prestige.

Differentiate yourself

When applying for job opportunities, having a personal website where you talk about both yourself and your projects, immediately raises interest. You become someone worth talking to, someone who has taken the time and effort to differentiate themselves in the current vague and repetitive job market.

Furthermore, you are in a way creating your personal brand, which is in my opinion the future of business and human interaction.

Reach many more people and create Opportunities.

The fact that your website is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and that it is also accessible from any place and device with internet connection, allows (almost) anyone in the world to know about you at any time easily and quickly.

You don´t know who will see it, who you’re going to help. While you are sleeping you could be helping someone. That thought is crazy.

Every view is a chance that could lead to an opportunity that can change your life.

Put yourself out there.

Have a better understanding of your target audience.

Nowadays, you have at your disposal free and simple web analytics tools that will allow you to obtain valuable information about your audience.

You will know what contents are of interest, what times and days you receive visits, from what types of devices, in what countries or areas, how they have found you, what keywords they have associated you with… and many other things.
